Using just one email everywhere may allow malicious people to get hold of and target the email for spam or identity theft. It’s a good idea to have an alternative email, for sending mail to strangers, signing up for newsletters or to filling up forms at unknown or untrusted websites.

This second email gets all the inevitable spam or unwanted emails while the official email remains clean and unexposed. Additionally, you can always forward important emails from the second address to your primary email and set a filter to keep those mail in a separate folder.

Simply add the second email to the first email’s account (using SMTP) and send mail as the second email directly from your official email only. This way your primary email account is nicely organized, free from spam, and even you don’t need to login to another account to do less secure tasks.

Avoid logging into personal accounts at the workplace

Smartphones are often bulging with data and running out of storage for most of us. When it happens, you need to clean data or get a new device with a larger storage space. With high-resolution photos and videos and video-streaming services taking a lot more storage than a few years ago, it is common for your smartphone to run out of storage.

Have You Ever Run Out of Storage on a Phone? — a poll done by Droid Life in 2016 reported that 50 percent of the respondents had run out of storage space on their smartphones and 21 percent of them came close to running out of space. That means 71 percent of the respondents needed more storage space.

What is the solution then? Almost a decade ago, it was easy to gain more storage space by using a microSD card as most smartphones supported microSD cards at that time. However, manufacturers have mostly stopped providing this option with a few exception brands like Samsung Galaxy. So, the question arises: what to do when you run out of space on your mobile device? Let’s find out below.

1. Opt for a cloud storage service

The easiest way to get more free space on your mobile device is to opt for a cloud storage service such as Dropbox, Google Drive, iCloud Drive, etc. Whether you opt for a free or paid cloud storage service, you can configure settings to offload photos and videos to the cloud, freeing up space on your smartphone.

Of course, the storage service’s app must support automatic backing up or offloading photos and videos to the cloud storage. For instance, Google Photos allows you to back up and sync your photos and videos. Moreover, you can delete them after they are uploaded to the cloud to gain more storage space.

Here’s how to enable the free cloud backup using Google Photos:

  1. Go to Settings > Back up & sync and enable it.
  2. After the photos and videos get backed up, you can delete them from your device through Settings > Free up device storage.

If you upload up to 16 MP photos, it is free for now. But after June 1, 2021, Google Photos will count them according to your Google account’s storage capacity, sadly.

2. Clean the device’s storage

Every digital device gets cluttered over time — especially our smartphones. That is why you must do a periodic spring-cleaning — at least every quarter if not every month. Though you can do it manually, there are apps to help you clean your device, which categorizes the used space by apps, documents, media, etc.

Most importantly, these apps list cache, junk files, and temporary data, allowing you to gain some space with just some clicks. For example, you can use Files by Google to browse files and clean up your phone. You should browse photos and videos and delete any bad, duplicate, pixelated, or unwanted media files to free up space.

Moreover, you must check the downloads folder on your device as we tend to download files, which converts to clutter over time, so delete them all.

3. Delete unused applications

According to a latest report, an average smartphone user has usually 80+ apps installed on his mobile device. However, the average person uses only 9 apps on daily basis and 30 apps on a monthly basis. That means you can remove unused apps from your device to free up storage space.

On Android, you can use Google Play Store to check all the installed apps and remove the ones you do not use. Follow the given steps:

  1. Open the Play Store and click Options (the hamburger icon).
  2. Choose My apps & games and switch to the Installed tab.
  3. Click an app and press the Uninstall button to remove the app.

4. Clear apps’ cache and temp

Every app downloads and/or stores data locally on your device. For example, Facebook may store login information and some cached or temporary media files. Similarly, Amazon Prime,, Netflix, and most other media apps allow you to download media offline, which also utilizes the device’s storage.

Some of this data is stored under special storage categorized as “cache” while others are stored on the device directly. You can delete cache and these extra or temporary data to get more free space on your smartphone.

On Android, you can follow these steps to clear an app’s cache:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > See all apps,
  2. Click an app and click the Storage & cache button.
  3. Click Clear cache to delete the app’s cache.

On iOS, you can clear Safari’s cache by following these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Safari and scroll down to Privacy & Security.
  2. Tap Clear History and Website Data under Privacy & Security.

As for third-party apps in iOS, this option is not available for all apps. For example, Slack provides an option Reset cache on next launch under Settings > Slack. So, you need to look inside Settings for other apps.

5. Check DeX and delete files

If you are using one of the flagship Samsung Galaxy smartphones, you may know about Samsung DeX. It is a mobile-powered desktop computing platform that lets you utilize a desktop-like experience on an external display. Though it gets you a PC-like experience using your smartphone, it helps you create more data.

If you do not use Samsung DeX, you can skip to the next section. If you use it, you must check your data inside DeX by following these steps:

  1. Boot up DeX and check apps, files, and folders.
  2. Delete anything you mostly do not use or want on a regular basis. It will help you regain precious storage space.

With the growing usage of smartphones for shooting photos and videos, it is no wonder that the storage space is mostly utilized by media files. Similarly, advanced features like 4K resolution, HDR mode, and 60 fps options gain attraction among enthusiasts, however, these all add to the media size.

That said, you should configure your camera app to lower down these settings. You can gain decent photos and videos at 1080p resolution, 30 fps mode, and high compression ratio, and you can always change settings for special occasions.

On Android, if you are using Google Camera, you can configure this way:

  1. Open Google Camera and click More > Settings.
  2. Configure the resolution options namely Back camera photo resolution, Front camera photo resolution, Back camera video resolution, and Front camera video resolution. Maybe your camera has more such options.

How much storage space do you really need?

It only depends on your requirements. If you hardly shoot photos and videos using your smartphone (maybe you got a DSLR camera?), you can probably do with 64 GB storage.

On the other hand, if you are a camera enthusiast, opt for a minimum 128 GB storage option. But if you are a heavy user shooting multiple photos and videos every day, you should look for a minimum 256 GB of storage space. Or you can also buy a smartphone with expandable storage using a microSD card.

Cortana is smart enough to show you the best matches at the top of the result list, but that can’t be satisfactory for every situation. That’s why, it provides options for you to take control of your searches.

To get the customized and most relevant results, narrow down your search query by using specifics such as:


Search using file names, wildcards (? and *) and extensions (for example: .doc, .exe, etc.) and standard arithmetic operators


Search in a specific location including OneDrive, the Internet, Windows Store or local storage drives (like C:)


Search in a specific category by writing a category followed by a colon (:) and your query to get category-based results. Here’s the list of categories (as examples) to take hints from:

  • Apps: Edge (shows various apps in the Windows Store)
  • Documents: Report (shows all similar-named documents)
  • Folders: Blog (shows all ‘blog’ named folders)
  • Music: Bob Dylan (shows all related songs and albums)

The tool allows tracking couriers from services like DHL, UPS, FedEx, etc. and retailers like Amazon, eBay, Walmart, etc., and supports various known flight operators.

Follow these steps to track flight or courier information manually:

  1. Type the flight or courier tracking number in the Cortana’s search box
  2. After Cortana validates the information, click on Track your package (this step is only for courier packages)
  3. You can see the search result under Best match

3. Set 3 Types of Reminders

You can set up time-based, location-based or person-based reminders using Cortana on your PC, and get the reminders on your mobile device.

Time-based reminders are of course based on time, whereas location-based reminders are based on the tracked location on your mobile device. If it is a perso-based reminder, the reminder will pop up when you receive a call or message from that person.

Follow these steps to set the reminders:

  1. Click in the Cortana’s search box, then type or say the reminder query
  2. Click on Set a reminder, then Cortana asks for person, place and time
  3. After setting the required information, then click on Remind button

Cortana can translate phrases and sentences in 50 different languages. You’re required to type or speak the phrase (as a query) in the Cortana’s search box and the artificial intelligent tool would give the response back.

Follow these steps to translate using Cortana:

  1. Click in Cortana’s search box
  2. Type “Translate“, then enter the phrase and “to French” (in case you want to translate the phrase to French)

6. Send Text Messages from PC

Cortana comes to rescue if you want to send a message when you’re away from your phone or too busy to pick up. You can still use this tool to send a text message from your PC (which is actually sent from your phone).

Follow these steps to send a message:

  1. Open Cortana and in its search box, type “Send text to
  2. Type name of the person from your contact list and press Enter
  3. Then type your message in the message box and click Send button

In case it’s a new number (not listed in your contacts), then you need to add the number in your contact list first. To do this, you can install People app in Windows 10 and save the number there (it synchronizes with your phone).

Cortana is interactive and user-friendly, and allows making queries in natural language — same as Apple’s Siri and Google Now. This means you can speak with Cortana same as you do with a human and it’ll give back responses.

You can follow these steps to search in natural language:

  1. Type or speak your query inside the Cortana’s search box
  2. Cortana will auto-understand the context and answer your query

  • Find documents for yesterday
  • What’s the weather today?

8. Identify Music and Songs

Cortana has got various tricks up its sleeve and identifying music or songs is one such awesome feature. It not only can listen to and identify music, it also can search the web for additional details and description for the playing music or song.

You can achieve the same using the following steps:

  1. Click inside Cortana’s search box
  2. Click on the musical note icon in the top-right corner (look under More, if it isn’t visible or available directly there)

Or you can simply ask such queries to do the same:

  • What song is playing?
  • What’s the name of this song?

Cortana will show the song or track title, album name and more details. You can click on the song to purchase the song or its album from the Windows Store.

Do note that there exists few regional restrictions for this feature and Cortana may not identify music in non-supported regions and instead reply “I’m sorry, I don’t recognize this song, Try again.

Cortana, apart from its other features, can help you do basic arithmetic operations and simple conversions.

The tool can convert between various numeric units such as currencies, temperature, length, weight and liquid quantities, etc.

  1. Click in the Cortana’s search box
  2. Speak or type “Calculate” or “Convert followed by your query

Here are some example queries to do the same:

  • Calculate 8 + 2 – 10 / 10

  1. Click inside the Cortana’s search box
  2. Type or say aloud “Send an email to” followed by the recipients
  3. And, type or speak “saying” followed by the email’s body/content
  4. After composing the email, you can edit by saying “make changes
  5. At last if all information is good, simply say “send” to send the email

Cortana can help manage your calendar, allowing you to create meetings and events without opening the Calendar. It will create an event with the information provided by you (and even ask for more if it thinks the info is incomplete).

It will also remind you of the set meeting or event as scheduled.

  1. Click in the Cortana’s search box
  2. Type or say “Add a meeting followed by date and time “to calendar

To run this feature, you need to activate the same in the Edge browser:

Fortunately, there are numerous tips and tricks that can help minimize unnecessary resource usage giving a speed boost to your PC. In this post, we’re sharing various tips, techniques and tools to customize Windows 10, with step-by-step instructions, so you can experience a fast, smooth and super-responsive system.

1. Disable Startup Apps

Your PC may be running slow because of a huge list of startup programs (apps that start along with the system). These apps slowdown the bootup process and degrade the device’s performance, hence disabling such apps speeds up the performance of the system and improves the overall responsiveness.

Although there is detailed information on how to manage the startup programs on Windows, however, for a short-cut to locate and disable the startup programs , do the following:

  2. Select the Local Disk (C:) and then right-click and choose Properties
